For more than a century, metal braces were considered the best way to straighten teeth. They remain highly popular today, but increasingly, people are turning to Invisalign instead. Billed as “the clear alternative to braces,” Invisalign uses smooth, clear, medical grade aligners to gently shift the teeth.
What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign treatment uses a series of custom-crafted removable aligners instead of attached metal brackets and wires. You will wear each set of aligners for 20-22 hours per day, for two weeks or as instructed, and then change to the next set at home. We need to see you just once every four to six weeks to monitor your progress.
3-D Modeling
The first step in Invisalign treatment is to create a 3-D digital model of your existing smile. We will then morph the model to show you exactly what you can expect from each stage of treatment, including the final results. We use this model to craft your customized series of aligners.

Daily Life
Braces put your dentist in control. We place them, adjust them, and ultimately remove them. If you have a popped wire, a loose bracket, or any other emergency, you will need an immediate appointment. You cannot eat many foods including whole apples and popcorn, and you must learn a whole new way of caring for your teeth.
Invisalign puts you in control. We will place attachments on your teeth and teach you to care for your aligners, and then it is up to you. Your favorite foods are not off-limits, since you can simply remove your aligners to eat them. You can also remove your aligners to perform your regular oral hygiene routine. When it is time to switch to the next set, you simply do so at home. We will keep an eye on you, but you are in charge of your own treatment.
Cost Considerations
At one time, Invisalign was much more expensive than braces, but this is rapidly changing. When comparing costs, it is important to add the fees for colored metal or other upgrades, as well as adjustments and emergency appointments, to the cost of braces. Invisalign uses a transparent pricing model that includes all dentist visits.
Some insurers cover both Invisalign and traditional braces. Some cover one or the other, and some don’t pay for orthodontic work at all. Our office staff will help you determine your out of pocket costs for both options.
